Margaux Kier
A border-breaking artistic rebel weaponizing theater, jazz, and activism to shake up the world
She hails from Bydgoszcz. At the age of 12, she joined her parents, who had emigrated to Germany; she currently lives in Cologne. After studying medicine, she trained as an actress and singer. In 2000, she founded the international jazz-oriented ensemble *Margaux & die BANDiten*. The band transcends boundaries by blending world music with *chanson*, jazz, theater, and literature. This is a project close to her heart, for which she curates programs and writes both music and lyrics; the group has released three albums. As an actress, she has performed on independent theater stages in Cologne and Wuppertal, as well as at the municipal theater in Dortmund. As a member of the German-Polish experimental theater group *Actors' Studio Pulheim*, she has performed in countries including Egypt, Korea, Latvia, Spain, England, and Poland. She has had the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with the Gardzienice Theatre, as well as artists such as Jerzy Stuhr, Jan Peszek, Zofia Kalińska, and Olga Szwajgier. She directs musical-theater productions and leads workshops for young people; she is part of *Mobile Literatur Guerilla Köln* and *Theater Anderwelten Wuppertal | Köln* (with productions featuring Nina Hoger, Angela Winkler, and Chrystel Guillebeaud, among others) and maintains close ties with the Węgajty Theatre in Poland. She is actively involved in civic initiatives promoting Polish-German friendship and child protection, as well as providing aid to Ukraine and supporting political prisoners in Belarus. Leonardo da Vinci has been dead for 500+ years. His body stopped moving in 1519. His questions did not. What does it feel like to be dead, when your curiosity is still alive in strangers you will never meet? Leonardo was a musician, lyre player and improviser at the Renaissance courts — but his fascination with music went far beyond performance. Leonardo was fascinated by **proportion as a physical principle**. He didn't treat music merely as an abstract system of notes; he was interested in how numerical relationships manifest as **vibration, consonance, movement and physical form**. He studied sound, resonance and musical instruments, and designed ingenious machines to make music — including the viola organista. For Leonardo, music was not merely a system of notes. *It was proportion made audible — and vibration made visible.*
